Page 14 Old Family Photos   (These photos are all from the 1920's and early 30's and unmodified with the exception of enlargement, unsharp mask filter application, bevel tool frame and B/W conversion from sepia via PS CS.   Some were clarified in PSP7.   They are posted due to the request of my cousin Karen, and show my three uncles, my mother, my grandmother (Nana), grandfather (Grandpapa) and their friends.   All are taken in California; San Francisco, Russian River, Boulder Creek, Cub Scout Camps and various outings.   I am hoping that my one remaining uncle will identify the unknown people.   The ones dated in 1924 show my mother at two years of age.   I love the ones with Grandpapa in full suit and tie rafting in creeks!  This page is dedicated to the memory of both my mother and my Uncle Phil.   I scanned all pictures from my Uncle Phil's album, the best uncle a child could ever ask for.)

Please note that any questions and/or comments can be submitted via the table at the bottom of this page.   I promise I will respond as quickly as possible.   Be sure to add this to your "Favorites" list.    Welcome to my site; please sit down, grab a cup of coffee and stay awhile.

I designed this site to be viewed via Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, but any browser capable of viewing "frames" should have no problems.   If you are running with Norton Firewall installed, you might have  some problems viewing the pictures.   Keep in mind that "slide shows" have an individual page for each photo, so hitting the "back" button will take you to the previous photo.   Each category has its own separate web site page due to the amount of files (and index.htm) ) it contains.  In order to return to the home page, just close out the window you are in.   I tried linking categories to one another, but ended up with too many "open" windows.

Be sure to have your speakers turned on before viewing the slide show.   Or, just turn them off if you don't like the music and noises!

I would like to dedicate this site to both my husband who has put up with me for the over one month period it took me to develop this project that I did by the "trial and error" method, and to everyone at Digital Photo Contest who helped me gain photography skills.

Digital Photography

What will I view on the following pages?

I have assembled some of my favorite photographs that I have taken over the past several years.   I divided them into  different categories, and I have also included photographs that I have won awards with on the Panos page and the Winners 1 and 2 pages.

Normally there would be a Black and White, plus several other categories, but I decided they were not necessary.   Plus, I enjoy looking at black and white photos mixed in with color photos, and it is my web page, so I get to do what I want.

What do the above terms mean?

Digital Art is any photo that has been manipulated via software to the point that it can't be considered a "normal" photograph.   If I take your picture and add huge ears and a funny hat, that would be Digital Art.   But thankfully I don't do things like that.   Hopefully you will enjoy what you see.   I guarantee this site is free of funny hats and big ears.   An example of Digital Art is directly below.   I took a photograph of a swan and its shadow, and turned it into this piece of art via computer software.

Macros are any photograph that I took with my camera set to a close-up option.   It could also be a small section of a larger photograph that I cropped down to include just one small area.

You will also see long photographs that are included in a  Panorama category.   Most of mine are in the Landscape section, but I also included a special section for full size ones that would not fit.   These are literally "stitched" together using software, and most include a minimum of four different camera shots.

How did you set up the pages?

Almost all of the pictures on my site are viewed in slide show mode.   You can either click on the small thumbnail on the left to view the picture, or let the slide show run on its own.   Each large picture will be presented for about 10 seconds, but you can always review it by clicking its thumbnail.   I did this because I absolutely hate having to click and then wait for a picture to appear.   I think you will find it an enjoyable way to view pictures.   It's very "family friendly" and the children will love it.    Pages can take longer to load, so be patient if you have a dial-up connection.   Make sure your speakers are on.

Are the photographs Copyrighted? ©

You bet they are!   Every single one of them.   It is against the law to reproduce any photograph via any means shown on my web site, and that includes "right clicking."    If you see one you would like for a screen saver, just send me an e-mail.   For more information, visit the Digimarc Digital Watermarking website.   My photos are low priced; it's not even worth trying to steal them since they are all traceable..

Are any of the photographs for sale?

You bet they are!   Almost every single one of them.   The "Holly Hollow" pictures aren't for sale because they are the artwork of Debbie Wilson.  But the rest of the photos are for sale and they are reasonably priced, too.   If you happen to see a picture that grabs your attention, I can print a high quality copy on the paper of your choice (Glossy, Matte or Satin) and sign it.   Or, if you prefer, I can copy it to a CD and you can take it to the photo developer of your choice.   Contact me for pricing information via the table below, or any other questions you may have.   I will change the site contents often, so be sure to check back on a regular basis.

My Camera and Software

I use a Sony Cyber Shot® 5MP camera with a 10x zoom feature. It is outdated by today's standards, but it does what I want it to do.   Sometimes.   I see no reason to upgrade at the moment, and plan on using my trusty Sony until it breaks down. It takes wonderful night shots, as you will see. I also used Adobe Photoshop for 99% of my photo editing. Almost all of the pictures presented here were done with Adobe Photoshop 7®  , but I now use Adobe Photoshop CS (8)®.

For information on either of the products I use, click on the web sites listed below:

The above link explains in detail the photo manipulation software I use.

Current Projects

Restoration of old black and white photographs.   If you have old photographs that need restoring,  please contact me.   I scan them into the computer, then do the modifications via Photoshop CS® software.   Also, if you have regular photos that just need touchup (crow's feet removed for the Christmas card?) I can easily do it.   The way I see it, a $50.00 photo touch-up is a lot cheaper than a $12,000.00 face lift.

Continuing to learn and improve on my photography skills.

Advertising for the opportunity to take local graduation pictures.   If you have a need for Senior pictures, or special occasion pictures, please contact me via the form below.

Working constantly on our ranch in Williams.    Although we recently downgraded from 50 acres to 5 acres, there is always something to do, as any ranch owner knows.

Biographical Information

I was born in San Francisco, and lived in the San Francisco Bay Area my whole life until moving to Southern Oregon with my husband of over 20 years, Nick Gombos, in 1999.   I lived in San Jose for the majority of my time in California.    I also lived in Sunnyvale while going to school, and also Mountain View.   Since I am a third generation San Franciscan, I do have "Silicon Valley" blood in my veins.

Although I have had a passion for art throughout my life, I did not take digital photography seriously until 2001.

I worked at Lockheed in Sunnyvale, California for almost 19 years, and was a System's Engineer for the Trident II Missile.  I opted for a voluntary layoff in 1991.

My husband and I also owned our own gardening and landscaping business for about 16 years, and I still hold my Landscape Contractor's License.   We also had a retail/wholesale nursery in San Jose where I grew everything from cuttings and seed.

I have an abundance of animal photo opportunities since we are blessed with two horses, three llamas, three silly goats, nine ducks, two chickens, two geese and a dog and cat.   One of the ducks is Plucky, a blind wood duck (aix sponsa).  Deer are also welcome and take advantage of the situation.

We live in Williams, Oregon (Rogue Valley/Applegate Valley) which has mild temperatures and beauty beyond belief.   We moved to Williams in January 2003, and  prior to that we lived in the Little Applegate Valley, only about 20 minutes away.   The closest large town to us is Grants Pass.   We moved to Oregon from the Santa Cruz Mountains in California where we overlooked all of Monterey Bay.   We moved from a very remote location in California among the redwood trees, to a much busier area in Oregon.

I am fortunate to see beauty in just about everything that surrounds me, and I try to capture some of that beauty through my camera.    I  have remained an optimist throughout life against unbelievable odds.   Friends constantly tell me I need to write a book, and it's on my rather extensive "to-do" list.

Personal Interests

Civic duty, fire safety issues, women's rights, neighborhood organization and safety, and political and environmental activism, all frowned upon in the neighborhood in which we currently live.

Gardening and doing anything where I'm pruning, digging, planting and getting my hands in the soil.

Trying to get this web site up and running.   I do enjoy computers and all the fun (and trauma) associated with them.
